Review of Sing Street (2016) by Katv M — 27 Nov 2016
Director John Carney (Once [2007], Begin Again [2013]) has one helluva knack for making movies where music is one of the main themes. Once was about a street musician finding love. Begin Again was about a has been producer finding a hidden talent in a young musician.
Sing Street is about a teenage boy named Conor (Fredia Walsh-Peelo) from Dublin that forms a band with his friends to impress a young lady named Raphina (Lucy Boynton). The film takes place in the early 80's and has a lot of music inspiration from the bands like Duran Duran, The Cure, Hall & Oates, etc.
The film is about Conors journey into finding himself and realizing his love for music. It's not just to ultimately impress Raphina, but its also his escape. He gets transferred to a new school, his parents are separating and its through the music and his new friends that Conor finds out for himself what he really wants in his life.
A really well done film and I really enjoyed the music! Definitely give this one a look if your a fan of John Carney's previous films, or a fan of some great music!
