Review of Sing (2016) by Jacob B — 29 Jan 2017
Sing is basically Zootopia meets American Idol (or any other music-related talent show for that matter). However, the end result is surprisingly well-executed with a cute storyline along with a series of subplots that over time have you warming up to the characters and you really feel sympathetic for them as you feel sorry for things such as Scarlett Johannson the porcupine catches her boyfriend cheating on her and Tori Kelly the elephant having stage fright in spite of an excellent singing voice (especially since Kelly actually is a singer in real life).
Sing may probably serve as one of those moments where Illumination Entertainment manages to make something entertaining outside of the Despicable Me franchise that will keep audiences of all ages entertained as well as a non-Disney computer-animated film that delights on more than just a visual scale and the fact that it has A-list actors to persuade you to come see this movie (though, to be fair, I saw it mostly for Seth MacFarlane in the role of a Frank Sinatra-esque mouse since I really like Family Guy).
