Review of Sing (2016) by Late R — 15 Aug 2017
Story-wise, there's not much depth, veering somewhat into shallow, predictable territory and at risk of being a little too common, but the great voice cast paired with the big and appealing musical numbers serve to rescue 'Sing' and manage to make it a lot more fun than it has any right to be.
It doesn't pack the emotional punch that one might have hoped for, but it isn't completely devoid of feeling either, with a few touching scenes here and there. At the end of the day, the positive core messages leave you with a sense of having watched something uplifting and entertaining making it one of Universal's better animated efforts, but it has to be said, the musical scenes are what make the film.
If you're in it for the plot alone, it's probably going to seem rather flat.
