Review of Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas (2003) by Tyler M — 18 May 2011
Got a chance to watch the only DreamWorks 2D I haven't seen, and it wasn't as glorious as it's three previous ones.
Sinbad (Brad Pitt) is a adventurous dude who loves to spend his days aboard his ship with his crew. But when he's convicted of a crime he didn't commit, his innocence is being tested because if he doesn't get The Book of Peace (the thing of which people believe he stole) back to Syracuse, then the king-to-be, his friend, will be put to execution in his place. With a feisty and strong-willed new crew member joins Sinbad, a woman (Catherine Zeta-Jones), Sinbad must get past lots of obstacles to get the book back from the goddess of chaos, Eris (Michelle Pfeiffer).
Whereas the story wasn't that great and the characters were unlikeable in the beginning, you do learn to like them as the movie goes on.
The voice talent is massive, everything from Brad Pitt, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Michelle Pfeiffer, Adriano Giannini, Joseph Fiennes and Dennis Haybert. All of which do wonderful jobs in voicing.
Which leads to my favorite part of the movie, the animation. The animation is fantastic! Combining 3D and 2D quite extensively throughout the movie, it made me an animation lover experience the movie in a way I never did before.
Whereas it's not as good as The Prince of Egypt or The Road to El Dorado or even Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron, Sinbad is a good film with good acting, a decent plot and fantastic animation. A treat for animation lovers.
FINAL VERDICT: 57%.
