Sin City 2 is here. The original film is one of my favourite movies of all time, so you can imagine that I had big expectations for this one. And they were met.

Robert Rodriguez is a director who, I feel, knows exactly what he wants when he is making a movie. He knew exactly what he was doing when weaving the tales of A Dame To Kill For, connecting the dots with the stories from the first film magnificently. His respect for the source material is also evident by co-directing with the graphic novel creator, Frank Miller. The grittiness and feel of the comics is successfully transferred, just as they did in the first movie. This is one of those rare sequels for me that hits the same heights as it's predecessor, keeping the same tone, pacing and neo-noir style that keeps me coming back for more. I know a lot of people won't like the black and white, CG backdrops or the melodramatic performances, but I think it all just fits this world that Rodriguez and Miller have set up. And I love it!

Most of our beloved characters from the original are back, even after some died in Sin City 1. But it is wonderfully written to accommodate these returns, and it all makes sense. It was good to see Bruce Willis and Jessica Alba back as Hartigan and Nancy respectively. But my favourite Sin City inhabitant, and possibly one of the best on screen characters of all time makes an appearance in a big way. Marv, played by Mickey Rourke kicks so much arse. We are reintroduced to him in the opening scene, from there I knew we were in good hands. Joseph Gordon-Levitt looks like he was born to play a role in a Sin City movie, and Josh Brolin takes over for Clive Owen as Dwight and fits right in. Expect to see a lot of Eva Green in the A Dame To Kill For short, and I mean a lot. She is pretty much naked the whole time. Successfully playing the role of a succubus.

It makes me sad to think that we may never get another Sin City movie, it hasn't performed all that well at the box office. Maybe it's just too late, or people just can't get into it's style. But I was so happy with this movie and had a ton of fun watching it. It was everything I hoped it would be and there are very few things that I could fault with. I have heard other people's gripes, such as Jessica Alba's over dramatic performance and that the movie is too long, but it all worked for me. This is on par with the first one and that is saying something. If you loved Sin City see A Dame To Kill For on the big screen, and it is worth it in 3D. One of the best 3D movies I've seen.
