Review of Sin City (2005) by Princess W — 03 Aug 2014
Not only a perfect neo-noir crime thriller, but also a masterful comic book adaptation. Every shot is so perfectly edited, it feels like reading an actual comic book. The whole style is enough to keep one in a trance the whole time, but the film, while not an overly complex art-house, still contains substance. The theme of anger, betrayal and vengeance are all perfectly complimented by a flawless use of colour as a symbolism. The whole cast is also a pwer-house, giving a lot of depth and emotion to what could have easily been a bunch of forgetable stereotypes. Although there are three different narratives that do not have anything to do with each other, they still blend in well and never let you forget the city where the movie takes place.
To round it all up, Sin City is an absolute masterpiece of neo-noir style blended with graphic novel traits, and is Robert Rodriguez's finest movie yet.
