Review of Simon of the Desert (1965) by Joseph S — 25 Aug 2008
It's a short about a Christian ascetic who spends his days atop a column to be irritated by villagers and tempted by the Devil. It's interesting to note how the material and the spiritual mingle in this man and how he's almost constantly in doubt except when he's giving advice to other humans.
The Devil's portrayal is excellent. It ends in a twist, almost literally (LOL), but there's no obvious interpretation for the twist.
