Review of Simon Birch (1998) by James M — 30 Apr 2010
An exercise in manipulation and very smug in it's pretentious execution. I've little surprise that John Irving wanted the title changed from his original novel (A Prayer For Owen Meany) and asked to have his name removed from the credits.
Some of the performances are actually pretty good, but it's overkill by the director and the syrupy Marc Shaiman score which made me want to turn off.
