Review of Silver Streak (1976) by Edward K — 25 Feb 2008
All aboard for late writer Colin Higgins seventies snooze-fest express! Unlike every other film Wilder and Pryor starred in, their comedic chemistry lacked here. Every attempted joke missed the mark. Higgins was capable of crafting other timeless comedies ('Harold and Maude','Nine to Five') so it came as a surprise when I sat down to watch and could barely muster a chuckle.
The film is an excellent study in plot advancement, film structure and a climatic finish. While the train carries all the elements of a good film, it seemed to have left the laughs behind at the station.
The film is scored by Henry Mancini, and you'll find even the music to be as unmemorable as this train ride.
