Review of Silver Linings Playbook (2012) by Salah S — 20 Feb 2015
For those of you who are ready to write "Silver Linings Playbook" off as just another romantic comedy, wait a moment. "Silver Linings Playbook" is a very different take on the typical rom-com, skillfully walking the line between comedy and romantic comedy. While most romantic comedies are all about the love story and don't bother with plot or character development, "Silver Linings Playbook" gives a plot, gives us colorful, relatable characters, while still retaining a love story.
The highlight of "Silver Linings Playbook" is of course the talented acting of its cast, who give life to these colorful characters. Bradley Cooper's performance is great, but Jennifer Lawrence is even better. That girl can act! She steals the screen, even from Robert DeNiro! One of her lines in the film is "Do you feel that? That's emotion.", which is a nice quote to summarize her performance because Lawrence conveys emotion expertly. However, not only are Cooper and Lawrence's performances excellent, but they also have great chemistry.
In short, "Silver Linings Playbook" is a film with a lot of heart and a lot of laughs, that showcases the talent of two of Hollywood's finest young actors.
