Review of Silver Linings Playbook (2012) by Joshua D — 06 Jan 2014
As far as romantic comedies go (and let's not kid ourselves into thinking this is anything BUT rom-com), Silver Linings Playbook does a good job. The very fact that the characters don't feel like cardboard cutouts alone shoots this to the top of the rom-com totem pole. That we also get a great performance from Lawrence and a surprisingly not-Bradley Cooper performance from Cooper helps significantly, too.
Kind of would have preferred less sports--living in Eagles territory made the constant green and cheers nauseating. Luckily, however, this isn't a sports movie; it just features some big sports fans as side characters. Which is basically almost 100% like real life.
