Review of Silver Linings Playbook (2012) by Hakeem J — 12 Feb 2015
I love David Russel, I love his range, and I love how he shoots things. Silver Linings Playbook actually subdued my initial (and usually, inevitable) "Book was better" rant. As this movie did the book much justice.
The on screen chemistry between Cooper and Lawrence feels a tad stiff at first, but comes together as the movie plays out. It was nice to see Russel pepper a few of the American Hustle boys in there as well in non major roles to catalyze the feature.
For the record, this is a feel good film, and we all know how I feel about those. However, the book was was personal, and resonating. This movie had scenes of genuine discomfort. Anything that can tigthen your chest like that deserves a nod.
Also, any guy who can go from Clooney, Marky Mark, and Ice Cube going full marauder in the Middle-East to this, gets my vote.
