Review of Silent Running (1972) by Lorraine S — 20 Mar 2009
A gem of a movie that is let down a little by some clunky dialogue, weak acting and the intermittent Joan Baez songs. The premise is wonderful though and the visual realisation is terrific for a film made in the early seventies. The robots are an absolute joy and the film features one of the best final lines of dialogue ever to grace a movie screen. It goes something like this.....
(Spoiler).
"When I was a kid, I put a note inside a bottle with my name and address on it and I threw it into the ocean. I never found out if anyone ever found it......".
My heart flips over every time.
