Review of Silent Night, Deadly Night (1984) by Dylan M — 12 Jan 2008
It's January now, so I shoulda watched it last month, but what the heck I needed something to rent and this was it. The visual image of Santa with a blood stained axe, threatening to lop the head of those that need be 'punished' is so awesome.
Who doesn't feel like that in the Christmas shopping rush? I dig the slow build for this one, unlike alotta other slashers, there is no central target, at first it seems like the Billy will be the hero of the flick, well until he has to fill in for the toy store santa.
The style is pretty pedestrian, nothing outta the ordinary, the gore effects are decent enuff, but nothing that is OTT awesome. Being the early 80s tho, there are plenty of boobies on offer....including infamous scream queen Linnea Quigley! Man how come 90s slashers missed out on all the tits? So.
...what happened to his kid brother? Was that him at the end?? Isn't that too big of a gap in the age difference? I dunno, anyway watching this will replace my holiday tradition of watching Santa with Muscles starring Hulk Hogan.
