Review of Silent Night, Deadly Night (1984) by Johnny T — 29 Jan 2012
Among the dozen or so victims of Santa's slay ride is a man who's choked to death with a string of Christmas lights and a young woman who's impaled--topless, of course--on a pair of moose antlers. As slasher films go, this is about average. The sets are cheap, with most of the budget seemingly going to the gore effects. This was obviously not new territory for the slasher genre, mind you, but Silent Night, Deadly Night brought the idea to new levels of cold sleaziness. Morgan Ames provided several creepy original songs, including "Santa's Watching." Of course, the movie was a hit -- thanks mainly to the controversy -- and four sequels followed. Tasteless, violent and mean-spirited, Silent Night, Deadly Night is the perfect stocking stuffer for misanthropic Scrooges. Robert Brian Wilson does a decent job with Billy but the real standout performance is Lilyan Chauvin as Mother Superior.
VERDICT: "Not So Hot" - [Negative Reaction] These films are truly terrible films. They are not the worst things ever made, but they are definitely awful and should not be seen by anyone. (Films that are rated 1.5 or 2 stars).
