Review of Silent Hill (2006) by Kevin R — 15 Oct 2014
I honestly disagree with the consensus on this basis. The movie in my opinion catches the correct feel of the silent hill games, keeping jump scares to a aluminum and replacing it with subtle psychological horror.
The movie also does something interesting and rarely done in most adaptations. Instead of making a "direct canon" or simply placing the characters from the games into it, it actually takes the time -at least in my observation- to create it's own characters and implementing aspects, mechanics, and references from the game into it.
There are a few problems in the movie I won't lie, but I feel like the movie is one of the best adaptations of a game I've seen yet.
