Review of Silent Hill (2006) by Jim S — 09 Mar 2014
My two least favourite genres are video game adaptations and crap horror movies.
This film merges both and I have no idea why I bothered with it (in fairness I didn't know it was a video game adaptation- it was recommended to me by someone who I now want to punch in the face).
The story (or lack of) follows Radha Mitchell as the most irresponsible mother in the world, who wants to get to the bottom of her daughters somnambulism, so she does what all intelligent, competent mothers do... She takes her daughter to the desolate ghost town of Silent Hill, the subject of her daughters dreams, much against the wishes of her husband (a waste of Sean Bean).
One in Silent Hill, the daughter goes missing and Radha Mitchell is attacked by terrible special effects which I assume are meant to be disturbing.
This goes on for nearly two hours and then the film ends. There is also a sequel which I can only imagine went straight-to-DVD.
Hideous, not scary.
