Review of Silenced (2011) by Roxanne R — 04 Nov 2012
First shocker- this is a TRUE STORY! Second shocker, I was unaware that the corruption in South Korea is so pervasive that practically everyone from teachers, to detectives, to even judges are bought. Prepare yourselves to see the unthinkable and heart wrenching abuse perpetrated by principals and teachers to deaf and mute children in a South Korea school.
As Maggie Lee from the Hollywood Reporter said: "Although the film ultimately achieves its function to expose deep-rooted and far-reaching social injustice, its visceral representation of harrowing and morally repugnant scenes remains unnerving and questionable.
" I know some human beings can be callous, mean, evil but the staff and relatives of the men involved in the sexual and physical abuse were monsters. This is the type of film that leaves you hopeless, sad, depressed and made me be so thankful that I am an adult without any impediments; that I can speak and protect myself, that I can stand for justice.
Some viewers will feel like vigilantes, thinking an eye for an eye is the ONLY way to put an end to this. I AM one of those viewers and after you watch this motion picture then you will understand my words.
