Review of Silence (2017) by Gui C — 02 Jan 2017
Silence is one of the most powerful, brutal and thought provoking films of the year. As the story is so rich in its displaying of the brutality, that not-only the priests suffered but also the villagers. In addition, this film is beautifully shot and directed by the much celebrated and esteemed director, Mr. Martin Scorcese. Every scene is meticulously shot and directed, by the prestigious mind of Scorcese; as he shows the mental and physical suffering that the priests and "peasants" went through. Also, the acting from Andrew Garfield and Adam driver is a masterclass. As they show their suffering and distress in such a melancholy way; in which you connect with them both, to the point where you're transferred inside their head.
Finally, 'silence' also balances out the Buddhists culture and the Christian culture ; not depicting the Buddhist culture as necessarily 'evil' if you will, but just showing the lack of understanding that the Buddhist.
Have towards the Gospel.
