Review of Silence (2016) by Sutton D — 09 Jan 2017
Two catholic missionaries enter Japan in the 1600's despite their religion being banned and their followers punished by death. Former missionaries have instilled a primitive faith which is stoical to present hardships while looking to a future paradise.
The portuguese missionaries are themselves converted as they assimilate. Their seeds of faith seem to fall on rocky ground. They all, like all Christians, fall short of the perfect sacrifice of their Master.
