Review of Signs (2002) by Cheryl L — 10 Jan 2013
I submit that M. Night Shyamalan is a master at making the absurd and unbelievable -- believable.
Signs plays upon our fears of crop circles and aliens and a pastor who loses his faith. The dynamics of his family under the strain of an international invasion of aliens is superb. Normally, most big budget movies go global, telling the story from many facets. This, however, is viewed from the limited purview of this one family; who didn't even turn on the news as if it wasn't their problem. When they did, they became more aware of how close danger was to them.
Personal loss, faith through the eyes of a child are major themes. Minimalist dialogue and exceptional performances from ALL major characters.
This is a movie, when on TV, I will gravitate towards because of its captivating story.
I may offend many of you for saying this, but... I liked this better than The Sixth Sense. Call me crazy.
