Review of Signs (2002) by Julian T — 28 Dec 2011
Shayamalan's best film in my opinion, and his last movie which was worth seeing. A classic concept is given a modern update and fresh take.
I'm not much of a Mel Gibson fan, but he is quite good in his role, as is Joaquin Phoenix. This movie captures a really creepy feel, never letting the viewer get comfortable. The music, camera angles, dialogue and direction always hold a sense of impending doom above the audience.
Tackles issues beyond alien invasion, such as faith, redemption, fate, and family. Hitchcock would be proud of this movie, as it avoids showing the viewer anything at all (until the very end, which I feel was the only glaring mistake of the film).
