Review of Sign Painters (2014) by Kyle A — 05 Oct 2013
The subject matter of "Sign Painters" is so woven into the fabric of our culture that it's easy to forget that it's even there... and that's what makes this doc fascinating. The history of American sign painting and the cast of characters behind it is colorful, and the film dives into it all, while serving us the warning that has become accustom with our current generation: technologies facelessness creates an artistic void within ones culture.
"Sign Painters" is also impressively similar to the profession it showcases. It's advertisement is its story, but it's the moments of cinematic flair that remind you that the film itself has personalized, human touch to it, much like the handcrafted signs it so wonderfully captures on screen.
"Sign Painters" is Arpke Approved at 4 out of 5 stars.
