Review of Sideways (2009) by Liam U — 14 Mar 2010
Clever, witty, poignant. Sideways is all those things and so much more besides. Someone on this page has described it as a romantic comedy. I cant think of a more inappropriate description. Sideways centres on the character of Miles and his relationship with himself as much as anyone else.
In fact his character can be summed up by the 2 minute speech he gives on 'pinot'. That he is is actually describing himself in this scene is a sign that the film isnt to be taken at face value.
Much more so than the Little Miss Sunshine's and Juno's of this world, this is a film that deserves the high praise it has received.
