Review of Sideways (2009) by Dustin J — 27 Nov 2010
Sideways.
Director: Alexander Payne.
Writers: Rex Pickett and Alexander Payne.
Mains: Paul Giamatti, Thomas Haden Church and Virginia Madsen.
"Man! That's tasty!".
Plot (IMDb): Two men reaching middle age with not much to show but disappointment, embark on a week long road trip through California's wine country, just as one is about to take a trip down the aisle.
My Take: This is Great film on every level. I didn't think I would enjoy this film as much as I did and im kinda curious how this movie didn't win best picture. "Million Dollar Baby" is great don't get me wrong but this film will become greater as it ages..... This movie host everything you would look for in a good movie. It has allot of humor both intelligent and direct. The emotional factor fluctuates allot to. One of the best parts of the movie to me is when Maya is describing the life cycle of wine. She got so in-depth about wine it felt like I was living through her. The movie also has allot of drama. The cinematography is great, you can tell the director is right there the entire time. I especially liked the scene when Miles was on the phone with his ex-wife, the camera angles where amazing.
Conclusion: Sideways was a shocker for sure, its a good movie will great replay value. It has comedy, drama, and like I mentioned the drama get pretty deep at times. Now that I think about it this has to be the BEST dramedy i've seen so far. Not to mention after watching this film you might wanna start wine tasting. Im thinking about going out right now and seeing what all the hype is about. Sideways is a great movie that will become greater with repeated viewings. This movie comes HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. "Smell the wine, don't be shy!".
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
5/5.
