Review of Sideways (2009) by Andreea B — 11 Mar 2012
A charming enough time-waster, though I was surprised at how straight-forward and predictable it was. To be honest, I was expecting a smarter, more complex film with smarter dialogue (considering the rave reviews).
Sure, there was lots of talking, but it seemed a bit colour-by-numbers, especially when it was Jack doing the talking. The premise seemed a little odd as well. It's hard to believe that Jack and Miles could be friends, let alone besties, and I found it hard to buy that these two women would give them the time of day.
Sandra Oh was far more enjoyable than usual, to the point of being underused. Virginia Madsen was also a pleasant surprise. I'll give this movie one thing: it made me wanna drink more wine! Worth catching on a lazy evening if you are into indie-type films.
