Review of Sideways (2009) by Heather B — 19 Jun 2012
Terrific film that perfectly balances both comedy and drama. The cast all deliver great performances here with Thomas Haden Church possibly being the standout here as the irresponsible yet likeable and hilarious best friend. The really underrated Paul Giamatti gives definitely one of his best and most emotional performances as the depressed, Miles. Virginia Madsen also gives one of her greatest performances as well. The script written by Alexander Payne and Jim Taylor, is clever and often hilarious. The film is sad, yet very funny at times as well and feels very realistic and I liked all of the characters who all have their ups and downs. I really loved Alexander Payne's other film, The Descendants as well, but this might even be slightly above that movie.
Final Rating Grade: A.
