Review of Sideways (2009) by Todd D — 28 Dec 2017
Brilliant film. Quintessential wine tasting movie. Believable characters, excellent cast, and solid plot. Basically a bachelor party road trip to Santa Barbara wine country that goes awry. Story really captures what it's like to be middle-aged and having gone through a divorce and trying to navigate a new romantic relationship.
Not enough films address middle life dating and simple-looking people. I'm really over all the young teen love stories or the older guy and much younger chick fall in love story. Give us more real life stories about plain but interesting people trying to date past their prime.
Sideways does this. Read Rex Pickett's novel to get more angles of the story. Really deserves a film sequel; there are TWO novel sequels by the original author in case you want to explore Miles' story further.
