Review of Sideways (2004) by Alex K — 07 Apr 2012
One of those rare films that I actually felt and still want to be a part of, more in terms of the beautiful, hilarious and even depressingly human characters in this intellectual 'buddy movie'. It seems that this film hits the central characters' lives at a peak, like the wine discussed inevitably leading to their gradual demise towards old age...one that Payne hints at in the final moments may be quite tasty after all.
Not only are the cast great, but this is something which if in the right frame of mind can really alter the way you perceive attraction and relationships. While the book is the real hero, Payne- in my opinion creates a stronger contrast between Miles and Jack in the film, separating them into two very different people that happen to be best friends.
