Review of Sideways (2004) by Russell V — 08 Sep 2012
Probably the most realistic comedy film I have seen. The comedy doesn't come from conveniences or plans but from the consequences of what the characters do because of their humanity. Paul Giamatti should have been nominated for an Oscar and Thomas Haden Church should have won that Oscar he was nominated for because these two are chemistry perfection in both drama and comedy thanks to their superb acting and how engrossed they are in the role.
There are funny scenes and there are dramatic scenes and both come off as quite sporadic and unpredictable in execution but that is what makes this film so good. Real life is unpredictable and it goes in it's own pace and it keeps you guessing throughout.
