Review of Sideways (2004) by Colin H — 30 Sep 2010
I was afraid this movie might have been overhyped, but in watching it I found that it was a great little picture, following two men on a roadtrip to get away from life's troubles and explore vineyards. One of them is trying to escape his down-and-out luck as a failing writer and divorcee, the other is enjoying all the exaggerated freedoms he can before getting married.
The film naturally ricochets off these two opposites, yet when the two men meet two women on their travels, they find neither is exactly right or exactly wrong in what they want from life. Everyone has their weaknesses.
A comedy with a hard, grounded edge, it will make you laugh and sympathise and with all of the characters involved, as well as criticise them!
Definitely worth a watch.
