Review of Sideways (2004) by Sonia G — 10 Oct 2010
â??Sidewaysâ?? is a very very great and well done movie, I just enjoy every minute of it from start to end. Though it has a lot of talking and more complexity that we see to these characters, still the whole point and idea of the film never fails, it all brings to something that we think we already seen or heard in some movies but well it is very original and unique storytelling. Basically, it is about 2 friends, Miles and Jack, who went on a cross state road trip because Jack is going to get married. So they spent the whole week there drinking wines, learning about the true meaning of the wines, and eventually they met 2 girls who was something to do with wines, Maya, a waitress, who is also good in wine like Miles, and Stephanie, who is a wine-pourer in a bar. So these 2 girls spent their time with Miles and Jack, having to see some good and bad things about them and themselves. What I saw on those moments is that most of the time Miles was also depressed and pissed-off knowing that his ex-wife is remarried and at the same time the book he is currently writing is rejected, so Miles got to be so freaked out but of course there's Jack right there, a friend to care with even though he is dating Stephanie. Well, as you would expect, YES these 2 girls knew that Jack is getting married so they didn't talked to them, as well Stephanie finding the truth and getting to beat up Jack that his nose is super broken. So because of that nose situation, Miles and Jack got home the day before Jack's wedding, so what these 2 did is they had to play that they went on an accident and their car is crashed so that's why Jack's face is very wreak. That's really what the whole film is about but somehow we could see that these 2 got to learn something about the ups and downs of sideways journeys of life, as to Miles thinking that there would be no better life for him because on the other hand Jack is married and you know Miles is now single but after the film ends, we could see Miles going on Maya's house.
Well, is it one of the best films of 2004 and the 2000's, absolutely big yes! Did I enjoyed it, again yes and also learned something about it not about finding real life but also looking for a real American life. I guarantee this movie as to be one of my favorites and I would watch this movie again if it shows up on TV because it is nice seeing this people again although you know what will happen towards the end.
