Review of Side by Side (2012) by St-Christian A — 18 Apr 2013
It was an eye-opener to me. I really had no idea about what was happening in the film industry. I am only interested in watching the finished product but has no idea the way they shoot, process and edit things. This documentary opened my mind to what was happening digitally and technologically in movies today, the way they are advancing and keep on entering a new level and continuing to discover new ways to enhance our experience in cinema. Most of all this is about the 'film' which is the standard format of recording moving images and the new form which is digital filmmaking. It explores the past, future and the development of cinema and the impact of digital filmmaking. Keanu Reeves interviews filmmakers such as Martin Scorsese, George Lucas, James Cameron, Christopher Nolan, David Lynch, David Fincher and many more including cinematographers, editors and other people involved in the long process of making a movie.
I have a dream to make a film someday, but I have no idea what was happening in filmmaking until I saw Side By Side.
This is recommended especially to those who are interested or practicing and wants a career in cinematography or editing.
