Review of Side by Side (2012) by Nick R — 29 Apr 2013
A must-watch for any avid film fan, Side By Side tackles the inevitable (?) digitization of the movie industry head on. There's scores of interviews with people from all sides of Hollywood, with many big name talents weighing in with their thoughts. It's notable too that it doesn't necessarily take a side, often presenting conflicting ideas side-by-side. There's not necessarily a right or wrong side, so the filmmakers wisely let the audience make up their own minds.
If there is a downside, it's that Keanu Reeves' persona is on full-display. He shamelessly inserts himself into the conversation and his typical lack of energy distracts slightly. Otherwise, this is one of the best documentaries I've seen in a while.
