Review of Sid and Nancy (1986) by Bastet 0 — 18 Jan 2009
The punk scene exploded out of England in the late 1970's. A time when youth stood against the structure, the government, and mainstream society. In a movement that was fueled by rage and anger, at the center of the volatile structure was a tragic love story.
Sid Vicious, the iconic bassist from The Sex Pistols fell in love with American groupie Nancy Spungen. Their brief romance inspired, shocked, and saddened. Gary Oldman portrays Vicious in a way where we can understand and sympathize with the struggles in his relationship and his drug addiction.
Both Oldman and Chloe Webb have a great chemistry onscreen, and provide some of the best performances in bio-pic history. If given the task to sum up the film in so many words...Picture Romeo and Juliet as heroin junkies.
