Review of Sid and Nancy (1986) by Paul H — 17 Feb 2011
Well that wasn't very good.
Sid and Nancy is the HIGHLY overrated docudrama about the "love" of Sex Pistol bassist, Sid Vicious, and his hysterical girlfriend, Nancy Spungen, and their road to ruin.
This movie is annoyingly bad, from beginning to end, the entire freaking movie is drinking, breaking stuff, doing drugs, yelling, yada yada yada. Andrew Schofield is horrendous as Johnny Rotten, the lead vocalist of the Sex Pistols. He doesn't look like him at all, and he plays him like a boozing idiot. The only thing that makes this worth seeing are the masterful performances from the two leads. Gary Oldman IS Sid Vicious, and Chloe Webb IS Nancy Spungen.
Even with those fantastic performances, they can't save this movie from being a colossal trainwreck, full of drugs and heartache. Besides the Oldman and Webb's performances, the only reason to watch this is to see what an overrated movie looks like. Anarchy in the UK, more like Anarchy on the TV.
