Review of Sicko (2007) by Migi . — 29 Jan 2010
Documentary in which Mike Moore compares America's health care system to other nations, and highlights horror stories that some people have had getting medical treatment.
Again, as in Moore's other documentary films, 'Roger and Me', and 'Bowling for Columbine', Moore's balance and whether he treats subjects fairly, can be questioned.
Moore is known for the stunts and set ups that he includes in his films. Here, he takes a boat load of people to Cuba to get the medical treatment that the American health care system has denied them.
Are documentary makers able to report facts and edit their films to support their own agendas, or should they just be impartial observers?
Still, Sicko did help me to learn about America's health care system, and how it compares to my own country's, where 'socialised medicine' does exist.
