Review of Sicko (2007) by Jacob O — 27 Sep 2010
Any British person who complains in some way about the National Health Service should see this film. Michael Moore takes on the American Health System, a structure which sees many Americans rejected from the health insurance they need because of past illnesses and 18,000 a year dead because of it.
Moore is startled when he visits Canada (in an amusingly disrespectful fashion), Great Britain and France, where citizens thrive on free healthcare, and discovers that doctors do home visits. He is truly a fish out of water.
The film's climax, which sees several people with illnesses originating from their voluntary work immediately after 9/11 visiting Cuba in order to be treated, is quite moving.
