Review of Sicko (2007) by Jard M — 24 Oct 2010
Michael Moore's Sicko is an interesting insight into the American Health System. As an Australian, where we do have a universal health system, it was interesting to see the deplorable state of the American health system.
Interestingly though, there is main focus on the people who have paid for health insurance only to be screwed over by the insurance companies. Some of the stories are very moving and will make you angry and sad.
Michael Moore is relentless in his pursuit to get what he wants, which may annoy some people. For me, what was very interesting was learning about previous efforts to install a universal health system only to have it shut down due to comparisons to communism.
American's most likely knew about this but most people who are not American will not have known this. One problem with Sicko, like with any documentary really, is that you only need to watch it once.
There's no real need to watch this again. Rent this one out of catch it on TV but no need to purchase it. Sicko is a great look at how poor the American's have it when it comes to a health system.
Whether your American or not, you should leanrn something from it and find it very interesting.
