Review of Sicko (2007) by Kim B — 07 Mar 2011
I was first shown this film by my French professor who couldn't understand why we don't have universal health care. A good look at what other country's universal health care systems are like and what we are sadly lacking.
Also, I like that he really shows how bad a lot of insurance companies HMOs are, especially Kaiser. However, the problem with this film is he doesn't look at the other side. For instance, sure Europe has better social welfare programs; but they also have higher unemployment and while Cuba also has free health care they lack political freedoms.
This film is told in usual Michael Moore style with his narration and quirky sense of humor with music and gadgets. An emotional and entertaining documentary that will be somehow relate to most Americans who frickin hate our health care system.
