Review of Sicario: Day of the Soldado (2018) by Cristian B — 09 Jul 2018
An effectively grim and gritty sequel. Though the movie may lack some of the subtle and subversive elements of the excellent first installment, this latest chapter still delivers in a stylish and hard-hitting manner.
Director Sollima keeps the pace moving briskly and writer Sheridan once again injects the story with social commentary and raw honesty. Del Toro and Brolin give strong performances and dig deeper into their characters this time around.
The movie does hit some flaws in the last third, but the performances keep you invested. Overall, this is a timely and topical thriller with substance.
