I agree completely with the "Critics Consensus" observation about it being taut and tightly wound. It has more depth than the standard Crime Thriller as it pursues consideration of intellectually deeper political, legal and ethical themes regarding the war on Mexican drug cartels that it portrays.
The thoughtful viewer with have things to think about afterward.
