Review of Sicario (2015) by Al M — 24 Feb 2017
I was glad to see than one well known critic made a point of describing Emily Blunt's character as "implausible" even though her acting was excellent. With so many great storylines in the world, I have a hard time watching any movie that has characters behaving in absurd or ignorant of incredulous in order to make a storyline work. It makes the whole action too concocted for my tastes.
Even though all the praise for the directing and acting is well-deserved, I found more of my time procured with how dense a person would need to be in order to behave as Blunt's character did. Regardless of one's moral fiber or stubbornness could account for such unbelievable behavior.
As such, the movie was a 75 for me. As an example, a story can have over-the-top characters and still have them credible. A great example is the character portrayed by Javier Bardem in "No Country for Old Men". Now that was an extreme portrayal but very believable!
