Review of Sicario (2015) by Nik M — 15 May 2017
When I first saw this film I was highly disappointed. Here I was expecting some action thriller because the previews I saw made it seem like the highway shootout scene would be epic. The entire time I saw it the first time I kept waiting for the big shootout totally taking myself out of the story.
I'm not sure if this was my own fault or the marketing efforts of the motion picture companies who set these great expectations just to fill seats. However, after my initial review I kept hearing about how great this film was and people kept referencing it in their vlogs.
Upon my second review I gained a newfound appreciation for this film. Not only is it's cinematography totally good looking (which I did notice the first time around) but the story takes a decent spin on how far the law will go to catch criminals.
It also presents a uncomfortable feeling of how deeply insulated the cartels are in the justice systems and the extent they will go to catch someone they pose as a threat. I believe this film has definitely set a fine stage for a sequel and I'm interested to know how the story will continue.
