Review of Shutter Island (2010) by Gavin M — 22 Sep 2014
Definitely a Scorsese masterpiece! I had to give this some heavy thought after viewing it again, but now, I got to say that this is definitely Scorsese's "The Shining." This movie has so much of both Alfred Hitchcock and Stanley Kubrick in it that you can't help, but fall in love with this amazing spectacle of a movie.
Scorsese is definitely the master of cinema. Hands down! Scorsese is king! Enough said. DiCaprio most definitely gives his most vulnerable and emotional and I mean EMOTIONAL performance to date. The rest of the supporting performance such as Ben Kingsley, Michelle Williams, Max Von Sydow, and Emily Mortimer also give exceptionally great supporting performances.
Mark Ruffalo too who I'm not a big fan of does a fine job in this as well. But it's Scorsese's great eye for great music that sold the movie for me. The score for this film is so eerie and seductive you can't help but be taken in by the craziness for this film.
Again, another Scorsese triumph!
