Review of Shutter Island (2010) by Skyler B — 22 Jan 2013
Just under average, this film is getting over-hyped by, well, everyone. Here's the deal. And by deal I mean "SPOILER ALERT" coming up. But here's the deal. The twist? You know its coming from the start of the movie.
And, even if you don't, the twist itself isn't even that shocking. The movie leads you right to it by guiding you by the hand. I was so NOT-surprised, that I was let down when there was no greater jolt to my system.
The movie provoked no thought, induced no scares, and provided very little in the way of interest. Acting was stellar and some of the set-pieces were incredible. But at the end of the day, not even the best of Ben Kingsley can save a movie (Thunderbirds, Bloodrayne, etc.
) and that's the case, here. Good for Scorsese, trying to move past his usual and create something different for once. Bad for Scorsese for failing at it.
