Review of Shutter Island (2010) by Jess B — 06 Apr 2013
I loved this film. The rest of my review contains SPOILERS... The greater narrative twist is nothing original (see The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari) but it still works. It's a clever technique that makes you want to watch the entire film again to spot the clues, and this isn't a bad thing.
Watching it again is just as pleasurable the second time round. The only thing is, when the film was finished I was left with the feeling that the twist at the end explained a lot of things, but maybe not everything.
I'm still confused about the role of the fake Rachel Solando. Was she an actress? Was there ever a woman named Rachel Solando and if so, was she really missing? And most importantly: what was the point of her?
