Review of Shutter Island (2010) by Philip R — 11 May 2013
This was the 2nd movie directed by Martin Scorsese that I saw in theaters since The Departed. I thought Shutter Island was entertaining to watch as two U.S. Federal Boston Marshalls (Leonardo DiCaprio and Mark Ruffalo) go to a fortress-like mental institution for the criminally insane on a remote island off the coast of Massachusetts to investigate a mysterious dissappearence of a female murderer.
I thought the way Martin Scorsese shot this movie was very interesting, like he does in some of his other films. Leonardo DiCaprio's performance as Teddy Daniels was terrific, as were the performances of Mark Ruffalo, Ben Kingsley, Max Von Sydow, Emily Mortimer, Patricia Clarkson, and Elias Koteas.
I loved Michelle Williams's peformance as Teddy's wife Dolores and the brief cameo appearance of Jackie Earle Haley as George Noyce, they were brilliant. I loved Casino and Cape Fear, but Shutter Island to me is an okay film to watch if you like Martin Scorsese movies.
