Bizarre. Inexplicable. An enigma.
This film is as awful, unbearable, stinking, arrogant and abysmally realised and the real, sordid hidden truth of life, behind the shiny facades which now rule and define the world.
Does this mean it's an out and out great film, a piece of genius, in managing to do that?
Possibly. Potentially. 5 stars to the power of infinity, then, I guess, may be deserved.
But, at the end of the day, the film is truly awful, unbearable, stinking, arrogant, utterly condascending, abysmally realised and can't conceivably be considered mature or serious in realisation.
Even if that's the point?
Hmmmm. Go figure!
It has been the flavour of the month (year, decade, etc) for some time to make art which "echoes" true reality in respect of being, well, in complimentary terms, truly dire.
Isn't it still the utter cop out it always was, though?
In true "Shutter Island" fashion, like the film which goes around in circles in your mind (if you want to try to take it seriously as art as I do, rather than silly, lower entertainment as most have done), I finish as I started - see below.
I hope expressing myself this way means I won't find myself thinking I have to put up with trying to watch this dismal, abysmal film again to work out if it is one thing rather than the other:
