Review of Shutter (2004) by Hwasiang K — 02 Jan 2009
A horror film that is very much predictable and perhaps somewhat boring, with much reference made to the original Ringu (1998).
Certain horror sequences succeeds one another, barely a minute apart. This unfortunately has resulted in the effect of a Duracell bunny trying to hump your leg, preventing the fear and horror from building up into a culminating effect that will have you gripping the handles of your chair and/or clenching your teeth in anticipation of the climax of the horror. Which we should see in a good horror film.
The only salvaging point about this film was some of the decent (wouldn't say excellent nor beautiful) mirror shots, together with the closeups that allude to the theme of water.
